Challenge EV calculator

Prop firm challenge EV calculator

A challenge is a bet: you pay a fee for a shot at a funded payout. This tells you whether that bet is positive expected value — fee vs pass-rate vs your split — so you stop buying challenges that lose money on average.

Expected value

+$1,950

per attempt

Payout if you pass

$8,000

your share after split

Break-even pass rate

5.6%

you need to pass this often just to break even

The math

EV = (pass rate × payout if you pass) − fee. The payout is the profit you withdraw times your split. If your realistic pass rate is below the break-even line, you're paying to play a negative-EV game — tighten your risk or pick a cheaper, static-drawdown eval.

What moves EV in your favor

Three levers: a lower fee, a higher pass rate (skill + a friendlier drawdown model), and a higher split. Propr's Turbo 1-Step keeps the fee low, its static drawdown lifts realistic pass rates, and its 80% split maximizes what a pass is worth — all three levers pushed the right way.

Challenge EV FAQ

How do you calculate the EV of a prop challenge?+

EV = probability of passing × the payout you'd take on the funded account, minus the (non-refundable) challenge fee. If that number is positive, the challenge is worth buying on average; if negative, you're losing money per attempt over time.

What pass rate do I need to break even?+

Divide the fee by the payout you'd withdraw after your split. Example: a $450 fee and an $8,000 expected payout means you need to pass roughly 1 in 18 attempts (about 5.6%) just to break even — everything above that is edge.

Why does the profit split matter so much?+

The split scales every payout directly. At an 80% split (Propr) a $10K funded profit is worth $8K to you; at 50% it's $5K — which nearly halves your EV for the same fee and pass rate. High split plus low fee is the combination to look for.
